Cell Theory
Created by Matthias Schleiden, Theodore Schwann, and Rudolf Virchow
All living organisms are composed of cells, cells are the basic unit of structure & function, and all cells come from pre existing cells
Biogenesis
The idea that all cells come from pre existing cells
Functions of Life
Metabolism, response, homeostasis, growth, reproduction, excretion, nutrition, etc.
Homeostasis
the body’s natural ability to maintain internal stability despite external conditions and changes
Excretion
the process of eliminating excess waste from the body
Prokaryotic Cell
Smaller, lacks a nucleus & membrane bound organelles
Eukaryotic Cells
larger cells containing a nucleus, nucleolus, & membrane bound organelles, does not contain plasmids
Plant Cell
Eukaryotic, contain a cell wall & chloroplast, lack centrioles, contain a large vacuole in the center of the cell and a nucleus in the side of the cell
Cell Membrane
Responsible for regulating what enters and leaves the cell and is semi permiable
Cytoplasm
Jelly like liquid which fills excess space in the inside of a cell
Nucleus
Contains DNA and controls cell activities, is surrounded by a nuclear membrane
Mitochondria
Controls and produces ATP, has its own DNA and can replicate independently
Ribosomes
Make protein
Golfing Apparatus
Sorts, labels, and packages materials ensuring they reach the right place
Modifies proteins and lipids
Lysosomes
