Alternative Behavior
A behavior selected to replace a problem behavior that serves a similar function.
Functionally Equivalent Behavior
An alternative behavior that meets the same need or goal as the behavior being decreased.
Contextually Appropriate Behavior
A behavior that fits within the environment or setting where the client will be performing it.
Social Validity
The degree to which target behaviors and interventions are meaningful and relevant to the individuals involved.
Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behavior (DRA)
A strategy where reinforcement is given for a suitable alternative behavior rather than the undesirable behavior.
The Fair Pair Rule
The principle stating that when a behavior is removed, an appropriate alternative must be provided.
Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
An evaluation method used to determine the reasons behind a behavior and the context in which it occurs.
