Somatotyping
A system of classifying body types into three categories through a visual evaluation of body shapes.
Endomorphs
Individuals with a rounded body shape and a tendency to store fat.
Mesomorphs
Individuals who are more muscular and generally taller.
Ectomorphs
Individuals who tend to be tall and thin.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
A common indicator to describe body fatness, calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the height in meters squared.
Overweight
Defined as having a BMI between 23 and 24.9 for individuals aged 18 and above.
Obesity
Defined as having a BMI of 25 or above for individuals aged 18 and above.
Isometric Contraction
Muscle generates force without changing length; no movement occurs.
Maximal Oxygen Uptake (VO2 max)
Standard measure for cardiovascular fitness; involves respiratory and cardiovascular efficiency.
