What is content analysis?

Method of turning qualitative data into quantitative (counts frequency/occurrences of certain things)

What is different about content analysis to other research methods?

There are no pp, only artefacts

What are artefacts?

Term used to describe what you analyse e.g. a speech/article etc is an artefact

What are some issues with content analysis?

Categories can be subjective e.g. what constitutes a swear word etc

What is vital when carrying out a content analysis?

A pilot study MUST be performed

Describe how a content analysis pilot study would be carried out.

E.g. when analysing a film you would first watch it and get an idea of categories you would measure. Then using these categories, you would watch again and record number of occurrences of behaviour etc
