Intraspecific competition (-)
Competition within the same spcies that compete for food, mates, territory
Interspecific Competition (-)
Compeition between two different species for food, space, water
Exploitation Competition
Occurs indirectly when organisms compete for ahsared limited resource resulting in one species reducing the availability of resources for others
Interference competition
occurs directly when organisms try to prevent others from accessing a resources
Amensalism (0/-)
When one organism is harmed or affected, while the other remain unaffected
Resource Partitioning
Competing species are more likely to ocoexist if they use resources differently where species divide and speacialize in resources to reduce competition
Competitive exclusion principle
Two species that use a limiting resource in the saem way cannto coexist indefinietly
Character Displacement
An evolutionary process where similiar species that compete from resources develop distinct traits over time reducing competition
The Lokta-Volterra Competition Model
If a and b =1 then species 1 and 2 are equal competitiors
if a=3 then it would take 3 individuals of species 1 to have the same competitive effects as one individuals of species 2
if b=3 then it would take 3x the number of species 2 to have the same competitve effect as an individual species 1
Species Coexistences
If both species are equally strong competitors for the same resource, then they can only coexist when they have similiar carry capacities
