federal court

• the highest court in Malaysia, serving as final appellate court an the ultimate authority on constitutional matters.

court of appeal

• hears appeal from high courts and other subordinate courts both civil and criminal matters.

high court

• consisting of two divisions (Malaya and Sabah & Sarawak). high courts have jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters and serve as appellate courts for subordinate courts.

session court

• presided over by a Session Court judge, these courts hear both civil and criminal cases within their respective jurisdictions.

magistrates’ court

• these courts handle civil and criminal matters of a less serious nature and are presided over by a Magistrate.

specialized courts

• syariah court(for Islamic matters)

• native court(in Sabah and Sarawak)

• juvenile court

• industrial court
