provides info from skeletal muscles, bones, joints, tendon, and skin = pressure, pain, temp. , chem change, can pinpoint pain, voluntary

relay info through somatic NS, requires specialized organ → sight (only one that doesn’t use somatic NS), hearing, taste, smell, equilibrium, touch
