Skeletal System
The organ system that provides structure, support, and protection for the body, and aids in movement.
Appendicular System
The part of the skeleton that includes the pelvic girdle, shoulder girdle, arms, and legs.
Pelvic Girdle
A structure made of the ilium, ischium, and pubic bone, supporting the attachment of the lower limbs.
Ilium
The largest bone of the pelvic girdle, part of the hip bone.
Ischium
The bone that forms the lower and back part of the hip bone.
Pubic Bone
The front portion of the pelvic girdle.
Bursitis
An inflammation of the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion between bones and tendons or muscles around joints.
Acetabulum
The cup-shaped socket of the hip joint, where the femur articulates with the pelvis.
Pubic Symphysis
The joint where the two pubic bones meet at the front of the pelvis.
Fovea Capitis
A small pit or depression on the head of the femur, associated with the blood supply to the femur.
Femur
The thigh bone, the longest and heaviest bone in the body.
Trochanter
A large, bony prominence on the femur where muscles attach.
Auricular Surface
The surface of the sacrum that articulates with the ilium.
Tendons
Flexible connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone.
Ligaments
Tough, fibrous connective tissues that connect bones to other bones at joints.
