Chest pass
Ball is passed directly from the passer's chest to the receiver's chest.
Bounce pass
Passer bounces the ball crisply about two-thirds of the way from his own chest to the receiver.
Ball strikes the court and bounces up toward the receiver.
Used in crowded moments.
Overhead pass
Used to pass the ball over a defender.
The ball is released while over the passer's head.
Outlet pass
No look pass
Occurs after a team gets a defensive rebound.
Next pass after rebounding
Behind-the-back pass
Advanced style of passing the ball.
Involves throwing the ball behind the passer's back to a teammate.
Dribbling
Act of bouncing the ball continuously with one hand
A requirement for a player to take steps with the ball.
Blocking
A defender alters the shot by touching the ball
Volleyball
Two teams, separated by a high net, hit a ball back and forth over the net between the teams.
Provides aerobic exercise
Helps in hand-eye coordination and ability to override the instinctive desire to dodge a fast-moving object like a ball.

Setter

Block
Actions taken by players standing at the net to stop or alter an opponent's attack.
Classified according to number of players involved
Offensive block
Aimed at completely stopping an attack, thus making the ball remain in the opponent's court
Performed by jumping and reaching to penetrate with one's arms and hands over the net and into the opponent's area.

Spike
Usually 3rd contact of a team with the ball
Objective is to handle the ball so that it lands on the opponent's court and cannot be defended.
Serve
Player stands behind the baseline and hits the ball, to make it land in the opponent’s side
Ace
Serve that lands directly onto the court or travels outside after being touched by an opponent.
Types of serves
Underhand, Overhand, Jump, Float
Underhand and Overhand Serve
Refers to whether the player strikes the ball from below, at waist level(underhand), or first tosses the ball in the air and then hits it above shoulder level(overhand).

Not generally employed in international competitions
Jump serve
Overhand serve where the ball is tossed high in the air, then the player makes a timed approach and jumps to make contact with the ball.
Much topspin imparted on the ball.
Most popular serve amongst college and professional teams.

Overhand serve where the ball is hit with no spin so that its path becomes unpredictable.
Can be administered while jumping or standing
