Review requisition for weight and other factors to determine blood removed

Properly identify the patient with 2 identifiers

Confirm patient is reclined and comfortable

Gather supplies

Tie tourniquet or blood pressure cuff

Palpate to find vein for 16 gauge needle

Cleanse area with more than alcohol pads

Withdraw any required evacuated tubes
