Bill of Attainder
A law declaring a person or group is guilty and inflicts punishment without a trial
Writ of habeas corpus
Requires law officials to bring an accused person before a court - arraignment
Ex Post Facto Laws
Punishes a person for something prior to a law being passed on that issue
Inherent Powers
Make treaties, war, foreign policy
Reserved Powers (Powers left to the states)
Public Health, Public Safety, Public welfare, public morals, public convenience, public education
Concurrent Powers
Shared between the national, state and local governments - taxes
Pros
Multiple points of access, keeps government close to the people, states can be more responsive
Cons
Complex and confusing, conflicts of authority may arise, each state has a different set of laws
