What is Khums?
Muslims must give a 5th of their wealth to the state or clergy

The every day struggle of resisting evil and fighting in a just war
What is Amr bil Maroof?
Doing what is good by following the rules of the Quran

To resist temptations so not comming sins

Expressing love to what is good

Staying away from those who do evil
What is an SoA for the Shahada?
In the Hadith Muhammad said "A muslim is someone who believes there is no God but God and Muhammad is his messenger"
What is different about the Shi'a Shahada?
they add "Ali is the viceregent of Allah"
What is an SoA for fasting?
"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn self restraint" Surah 2:183
What is greater Jihad?
Internal struggle in pleasing God
What is lesser Jihad?
A just conflict
What is an SoA for Zakat?
"Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the funds" Surah 9:60
What is an SoA for Khums
"a fifth share is assigned to Allah - and to the Messenger, and to near relatives, orphans, the needy' (surah 8:41)
Why is Khums important?
used for educational purposes

680AD when Muhammad led the first group of Muslims there on pilgrimage

It is one of the 5 pillars

Celebrates the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting for Ramadan

Sins are forgiven during Ramadan

What does Ashura commemorate?
Murder of Hussayn grandson of Muhammed for Shia's, for Sunnis the day when Musa and the Israelites were saved from the tyranny of Pharaoh and the murder of Hussayn
Why is Ashura important?
Gives Shi'as chance to show devotion.
Taking part in Ashura washes away sins
For Sunni's time to mourn prophets grandson but also remember mercy of Allah freeing Israelites
What does Eid al Ghadeer commemorate?
When Shi'as believe Muhammad appointed Ali his rightful successor
Why is Eid al Ghadeer important?
It acknowledges the belief that Ali should have been the first caliph after Muhammad instead of Abu Bark
