Parameters
Constants that describe the population as a whole
Statistics
a quantitative characteristic that describes a sample obtained from a population.
Mode
most frequently appearing value or class of values in a set of observations.
Median
the middle value of the series of observations when they have been arranged in order of magnitude
Mean
the arithmetic average of the set of observations.
Range
the difference between the high-est and the lowest value recorded.
Quartile
a value that divides a set of data into four equal parts
Standard deviation
a measure of how spread out a set of data is from its mean
Variation
how spread out the data is around the center of the data.
coefficient of
variation (CV)
The ratio of the standard deviation to the mean
standard error of the mean
regarded as a standard deviation among the means of samples of a fixed size n. Used for confidence limits
95% confidence interval
if you were to repeat an experiment many times, you can be 95% confident that the true population parameter (like the mean) would fall within the calculated range of values defined by the upper and lower bounds of the interval
central limit theorem
the distribution of sample means approaches a normal distribution as the sample size increases.
Accuracy
the success of estimating the true value of a quantity
Precision
clustering of sample values around their own average.
