Alienated Stalin who called it “dollar imperialism” and so he banned USSR states from partaking - offering Cominform as an alternative

A lot of western countries such as the US, Italy and the UK all pledged to defend eachother so that Stalin couldn't attack one without risking war.

The USSR alternative to this was the Warsaw pact

1948-49

Stalin blockaded west Berlin to try and starve them into submission. The west responded by flying in supplies. 275,000 flights with 1.5 million tonnes of supplies.
