US History Eras

The U.S Hisory Eras in order, with short descriptions.

Colonization

* Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas.
* Conflict between Native Americans, SP vs. FR
* English/American colonies developed governments.
* FR vs Indian War ended 1763.

Revolutions/DOI (declaration of independence)

* UK taxed the colonies, causing an uproar --- > Lexington in Apr. 1775.
* DOI in Jul. of 1776 led the Americans to freedom.

Creation of the Constitution

* Written in 1787, ratified in 1789 after debate.

Early Republic (Rep.)

* George Washington sworn in as US started its republic.
* Democratic and Republic parties created.
* In 1812, UK v. US, US winning.

Age of Jackson

* Jackson was elected, and he was seen as the “common” man.
* Represent average people, expanding their role in the democratic process.
* Conflict with Natives over the west movement.

Reform Movements

* overcrowding
* Industrial Revolution- gave women, African-Americans, and other minorities a voice in democracy

Sectionalism

* Divided by pro-slavery South and industrial North.

Civil War

* Abraham Lincoln elected in 1860, his beliefs making southern states secede.
* North v. South- Fort Sumter, and for the next 4 years they fought until Apr. 1865.
* South was defeated.

Reconstruction

* Lincoln made plans to rebuild the nation, addressing economic, political, and social changes/issues.
* US military protected former slaves until Rep. Hayes was elected. He dismissed them, leaving the former slaves with no protection.
