monoclonal antibodies
obtained from clones of single B cells
myeloma cells
grow and divide indefinitely but do not produce antibodies
hybridomas
fused product of myeloma and B cells
step 1
inject mouse with antigen for which antibodies are desired…allow for immune response to take place and plasma to start producing antibodies…extract plasma cells from mouse
step 2
fuse plasma cells with myeloma cells…seperate resulting hybridomas and allow growth and division to produce antibodies
step 3
remove antibodies and test effectiveness to antigen…place producing antibodies into industrial fermenter…harvest and purify monoclonal antibodies
