Sudetenland
A region in western Czechoslovakia with a large German minority population of about 3 million, whose annexation was demanded by Hitler in 1938.
Munich Agreement
An agreement reached in September 1938 where the Sudetenland was given to Germany in exchange for Hitler's promise not to invade the rest of Czechoslovakia, seen as an act of appeasement by Chamberlain.
Appeasement Policy
Chamberlain's strategy of giving in to Hitler's demands, such as in the Munich Agreement, in order to avoid war and buy time to strengthen Britain's economy and armed forces.
Czechoslovakia's Borders
Defined by the Treaty of Versailles, Czechoslovakia's borders were challenged by Hitler's desire to annex the Sudetenland, leading to tensions and the Munich Agreement without Czechoslovakia's direct involvement in the negotiations.
