In this layer keratinocytes die and contribute to the protection=waterproof
Stratum spinosum
Contains a lot of keratinocytes it contributes to protection also contains Langerhans that respond to immune system.
Stratum basale: contains basal cells that are not specialized that devide to create more keratinocyte cells. Flexibility and the skin protection contain langerhan (immune system)
