Employee Selection
The process of choosing individuals for employment in an organization based on various criteria.
References
Expressions of opinion about an applicant's ability, previous performance, work habits, character, or potential for future success.
Letters of Recommendation
Written endorsements that express an opinion regarding an applicant's qualifications and suitability for a position.
Résumé Fraud
The act of providing false information or misrepresenting qualifications on a résumé.
Negligent Hiring
A legal concept where an employer may be held liable for harm caused by an employee if they failed to adequately check the employee's background.
Conditional Privilege
The legal right for someone providing a reference to express an opinion about an applicant, provided they believe the statement is true.
Reference Reliability
The consistency of the information provided by different references regarding the same applicant.
Job Knowledge Tests
Assessments designed to measure how much a person knows about a specific job, often used in the public sector.
Cognitive Ability Tests
Tests that measure an applicant's capacity to learn and apply new information or skills.
Work Sample
A selection method in which applicants perform tasks that are directly related to the job they are applying for.
Biodata
A selection method that examines an applicant’s life experience to predict future job performance.
Integrity Tests
Assessments that gauge an applicant's likelihood to engage in dishonest behavior, commonly used in retail.
Graphology
The study of handwriting to assess personality traits related to potential job performance.
Drug Testing
A method used to screen applicants for illegal drug use, often used due to concerns about workplace safety.
Psychological Exams
Evaluations conducted to assess mental health and psychological fit for specific job roles.
Rejection Letters
Communications sent to applicants who are not selected for a position, providing feedback and encouragement.
