Adoration and blessing
Prayers that expresses the worshipper's deep and abiding love for God. Assures God that prayer is heartfelt, and conveys an adherents' trust and belief in the divine.
Intercession and Petition
Prayers in which an adherent prays for the needs of an individual or a large group. They can also be referred to as prayers of supplication and serve as another expression of trust - asking God for favours only he can provide.
Thanksgiving
Prayers of heartfelt thanks for favours received, or simply general thanks for the gift of life/creation. These allow adherents to express their love and humility. Catholics believe that this is the most important type of prayer.
Praise
Prayers that acknowledge the greatness of God purely for his sake.
Confession
Prayers in which adherents honestly acknowledge their sins before God, and ask for forgiveness and the strength to resist future temptation.
