soldiers realized the order was a mistake but do what they are told because it is their duty to obey orders.

these images personify death and hell making them seem like monsters that the soldiers can’t escape from”

“sabre-stroke shatter’d and sunder’d “

sibilance here sounds vicious.

“all that was left of them , left of six hundred”

the repetition of left of reminds is that lives have been lost and makes the poem sound sad.

“honour… honour”

this command is repeated to leave the reader with the idea that they should honour the country
