Type 1
Slow oxidative,
also known as slow twitch fibres
Extremely oxygen efficient
High resistance to fatigue
Works over long periods of time
Mainly used in insurance events
Type 2a
Fast oxidative,
Can work both aerobically and anaerobically
Is seen as a combination of slow oxidative and fast glycolytic muscles
Type 2b
Fast glycolytic,
Also known as fast twitch fibres
Works anaerobically using glycogen stores
Strong quick contractions
Low resistance to fatigue
Smooth muscle
Involuntary muscle that is subconsciously controlled e.g. digestive muscle
Skeletal muscle
Voluntary muscle that is consciously controlled, attaches to bone to cause movement.
