Elements of the body

Homeostasis
the body maintains a fairly stable internal environment despite external factors
regulate the internal concentration of:
hydrogen
calcium
potassium
sodium
fluid balance
oxygen
PH level
Glucose
temperare
Blood pressure
Feedback loops
set point: the normal range of a variable
Stimulus: something that needs to be controlled for life e.g. temperature
Receptor: detects a stimulus and sends a nerve impulse
Control (coordination centre): the brain assesses information and decides what to do
Effector: creates a change to influence the stimulus
Negative feedback loop
Heat is an example if you get to hot you sweat, if to cold you shiver. basically your body keeping a regular internal environment
Positive feedback loop
its the opposite to a negative feedback loop as it sets in motion a change. for example in child birth the baby stretching the cervix releases oxytocin causing stronger uterine contractions which pushes the bebeh out
