What is the lensometer/ purpose?
-Detect eyeglass prescription

What is the autorefractor— what does it detect etc?
Automates a visual prescription etc….
SPH (-0.5 etc, side of phoropter)
Cylinder (1.5, middle/ white background etc)
Axis etc (140/180 etc)

What is the optomap machine?
Captures the optic nerve and allows for visualization behind the eye!
views of the retina etc:))

What is the visual acuity test? (Snellen’s test)
— testing if they have 20/20 vision (distance & near)
screen vs card etc

What is the cover test?
have patient stare at a fixed position, cover and uncover eye, making sure they don’t move etc…


If eyes move during cover test inward..
Esotropia..


If eyes move during cover test outward..
Exotropia..

If eyes move during cover test upward, but moves downward to pickup fixation..
hypertropia


EOM (Extraocular Motility) H-test
Have the patient follow your finger (or object) with an H shape etc.. making sure the muscles are working properly etc..


Near point convergence test
bring object to nose making sure eyes go inward to object etc:)) not out
making sure no double vision etc!
record the number where they can focus again etc


Confrontation Field (peripheral vision test)
cover eye along with patient, have them stare at your nose, and make numbers in each quadrant etc…

PERRLA test (pupil equal, round, responding light accommodations)
get pupil size/ readings before & after you shine light into them etc..
shine light into left eye observing right eye making sure they constrict together at the same time
check dilation (accommodation) have the patient focus on something close up and then far away etc.. eyes should dilate!
Drops
Numbing drop/ dilating drops

Tonopen (eye pressure)
Normal eye pressure= 12-20 mmHg
Don’t push down on eye etc!
return to storage area etc

Set photoropter
SPH (-/+ 0.5, 2.25 etc— red for negative)
-Cyl (in the middle/ white background etc, protruding knob)
Ax (180 etc)
