They were left behind by the group because they were Dominican and would be more of a problem than a help, they were also able to pronounce parsley.
Why did Yves not want to stay at the huts at the foot of the mountain?
Haitians were hung there even though they were wealthy. They were gonna ask to stay with a family, but they saw their hung bodies, so they had to keep going.

The crowds agreed with Trujillo and so they ganged up on them. They then stuffed parsley down the Haitian’s throats.

Amabelle put her hand over. Odette’s mouth to stop her from making noise (when her husband was shot), Amabelle thinks he’s suffocated her. Later she finds that Odette was actually shot.

Many people came and told Senora Valencia that Amabelle was dead so she didn’t believe it was her and she finally believed it was her when Amabelle told her about the day they met and how Papi let Amabelle stay with them
