puncture wounds
clean with soap and water, apply pressure with sterile pad, bandage as needed
serious cuts/major wounds
apply pressure with sterile pad, lie victim down, raise limb above body, treat for shock, call ambulance, stay calm, reassure victim
shock (symptoms)
cold clammy skin, sweating, pale face, chill, nausea, shallow breathing
shock (treatment)
lie person down, open airway, turn head to side if vomiting, keep head lower than body, keep warm but not overheated
head injuries
maintain open airway, apply pressure if needed
serious eye injury
ice pack, eye cap, cover other eye, call ambulance, treat for shock
minor burns
cold water, lidocaine
serious burns
first prevent shock, then prevent contamination, then control pain. Lie person down, put cleanest available cloth over burn (can be wet), seek medical attention
fracture or break
ice pack, elevate
heat exhaustion (symptoms)
pale clammy skin, rapid weak pulse, dizziness and cramps
heat exhaustion (treatment)
move victim somewhere cool, give them fluids and cold compresses
minor cuts
clean area with soap and water (wash away from wound)
chemical splash
flush eye for 15 minutes while other person reads the label
minor eye injury
put upper eyelid over lower eyelid, flush with water and don’t touch, use eye magnet if metal
