success

  • could argue that the league was a success as it manage to resolve some border disputes/ help countries avoid war, even though powerful countries like the US and Germany and the USSR were not members

2
New cards

failures

  • leagues own members were responsible for many of the leagues failures

  • the league found it difficult to get powerful member countries, such as Italy, to accept its decisions. Italy was a permanent member of the leagues council and so was hard to control

  • league members such as B+F were not willing to enforce the leagues decisions if this interfered with their national interests/ priorities. For example neither country was willing to send in soldiers from there countries to solve the vilna crisis

  • lack of unity among league members. B+F disagreed over mussolini’s actions in corfu. this made the actions of the league ineffective
