  • Traditional protestants say that we have all fallen short of God, but the Orthodox Church says that humans sufffer the consequences of Adam and Eve

  • All human beings are born facing temptation and must make a choice. Everyone is born with the inclination to do good (yetzer ha tov), and the inclination to do evil (yetzer ha ra)

  • He argues that suffering is painful but ultimately leads to a healthier soul and helps us to grow

  • Some catholics believe: love is impossible without suffering, suffering is a sign of commitment, suffering is a blessing, Jesus suffered

  • Jews believe suffering has come from humans or nature and humans should not question why God has sent suffering

  • God the father is is almighty creator, God the son is equal to the father but took on human limitations whilst on earth, God the holy spirit gives life to all things and unites the father and son in love

  • The holy spirit was present at Pentecost and gave the disciples courage to spread the word of God, the spirit descended on Jesus as soon as he was baptised and God spoke to him (SOA)

  • ‘And a voice spoke from heaven, this is my son with whom i am pleased’

  • St Augustine compared the trinity to love - for love to happen, you need 3 things, the lover, the lovee and the love itself, this is how we experience Gods love

  • Jews are monotheists and only believe in one God, the idea of the trinity challenges this belief - the Shema states that God is one

  • God is fully God and fully human, he is referred to as the incarnate son showing he is really God in human form

  • Jews believe in the oneness of God so dont believe in the incarnation, they believe Jesus was just an ordinary man

  • Jesus’ suffering brought positive consequences and was all part of Gods plan, the church teaches those who suffer on earth are united in the suffering with Jesus on the cross

  • God has taken on the limitations of human nature through Jesus, so its okay to show this through artwork

  • Christians are against it as some artwork gives the wrong idea of God, the commandments state ‘you shall not worship false idols’

  • Do not believe in this, God is beyond suman and depicting him is forbidden, goes against the commandment ‘You shall worship no other God but me’
