Many Anti-apartheid groups came together to create a list of human rights including equal rights that had to be put before the law
They also requested part of the countries ownership and wealth
The South African Government rejected this request and arrested them on suspicion of trying to turn south africa towards communis
POLITICAL SUPPRESSION
Supression of Communism Act - 1950 - any form of protest against apartheid was seen to be caused by communism, therefore any form of unrest was seen as communist-led and warranted a prison sentence
Criminal Amendment Act - 1953 - anyone accompanying someone guilty of criminal activity will also be found guilty and arrested until their innocence can be proven
Censorship Acts - 1955 &1956 - South African government critically restricted and monitored content opposing apartheid regime, limiting medias freedom of expression
