• Many Anti-apartheid groups came together to create a list of human rights including equal rights that had to be put before the law

• They also requested part of the countries ownership and wealth

• The South African Government rejected this request and arrested them on suspicion of trying to turn south africa towards communis

POLITICAL SUPPRESSION

• Supression of Communism Act - 1950 - any form of protest against apartheid was seen to be caused by communism, therefore any form of unrest was seen as communist-led and warranted a prison sentence

• Criminal Amendment Act - 1953 - anyone accompanying someone guilty of criminal activity will also be found guilty and arrested until their innocence can be proven

• Censorship Acts - 1955 &1956 - South African government critically restricted and monitored content opposing apartheid regime, limiting medias freedom of expression
