Test for Hydrogen

H2, Lit splint near opening of a test tube, if a squeaky pop sound occurs then hydrogen is present.

Test for Oxygen

O2, Oxygen will relight a glowing splint.

Test for Carbon Dioxide

CO2, Lime water will turn cloudy if carbon dioxide is bubbled into the water due to the formation of calcium carbonate.

Test for Ammonia

NH3, Damp red litmus paper will turn blue.

Test for Chlorine

Cl2, Damp blue litmus paper turns red to white.
