Prejudice

Prejudice

A negative prejudgment of a group and its individual members, with or without intent.

Discrimination

Unjustifiable negative behavior toward a group or its members - the act.

Stereotype

Positive or negative beliefs about the personal attributes of a group of people.

Implicit Prejudice

Unconscious prejudice that we are not aware of.

Explicit Prejudice

Conscious prejudice that we are aware of and intentional.

Ethnocentrism

The process of judging another culture through the lens of our own.

Social Dominance Orientation

When groups want to achieve and maintain a higher social position.

Scapegoat Theory

motivation of prejudice; the tendency to blame another group for problems you face, fueled by competition of resources.

Social Identity Theory

motivation of prejudice; ur identity is based on group membership

Out-Group Homogeneity Effect

The perception that members of out-groups are more similar to each other than they actually are, contributing to stereotyping and bias.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

consequence of prejudice; victims of discrimination can internalize and blame themselves.

Stereotype Threat

consequence of prejudice; the experience of self-confirming apprehension when entering a situation that you will be judged based on a negative stereotype.

Terror Management

The idea that awareness of our own mortality can lead to feelings of existential terror, causing people to cling to their cultural worldviews and react defensively to those who threaten these beliefs.

Racism

A form of prejudice involving negative attitudes, beliefs, and/or behaviors towards individuals or groups based on their perceived racial or ethnic group.

Sexism

A form of prejudice involving negative attitudes and beliefs towards individuals or groups based on their gender.

The theory that intergroup hostility and prejudice arise from conflicting goals and competition over limited resources.

In group bias
