Ethnicity
The quality of belonging to a population group made up of people who share a common cultural background or descent.
Social Construct
A complex concept or practice shared by a society or group, built on assumptions upheld by its members, not arising from natural sources.
Assimilation
The process through which individuals and groups of differing heritages acquire the basic habits, attitudes, and mode of life of an embracing culture.
Ethnic Enclaves
A geographic area with high ethnic concentration, characteristic cultural identity, and economic activity.
Immigration Restrictions
Laws enacted to limit immigration, notably the Page Act of 1875 and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
