What are possible products of incomplete combustion?

  • C (s) SOOT

  • CO (g) CARBON MONOXIDE

  • NO2 (nitrogen in nitrogen dioxide from air)

How can acid rain derived from sulphur arise?

Burning fossil fuels with sulphur based impurities produces sulphur dioxide -> sulphur dioxide ACIDIC GAS. Reacts with water in atmosphere to form sulfuric acid which falls as acid rain.

5
New cards

How can acid rain derived from nitrogen arise?

Nitrogen and oxygen heated in engine and react to produce nitrogen dioxide -> nitrogen oxides are ACIDIC. They dissolve in water to form nitric acid which contributes to acid rain.
