How the story ends.
Suspense
A feeling of excitement, tension, or uncertainty about what will happen next.
Character Traits
The qualities, attitudes, and values that a character shows through their actions, thoughts, and words.
Inference
Making a guess based on clues in the text and your own knowledge.
Internal Conflict
A struggle within the character’s mind.
External Conflict
A struggle between a character and an outside force.
Tone
The author’s attitude or feeling toward the subject or audience.
Connotation
The feelings or emotions that a word suggests, beyond its literal meaning.
Poet's Message
The main idea, theme, or feeling the poet wants to convey through their poem.
Compound Sentences
Sentences that contain a comma and a coordinating conjunction.
Coordinating Conjunctions
Words that show the relationship between two independent clauses (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).
Coordinating Adjectives
Two adjectives used to describe the same thing, requiring a comma between them.
Redundancy
The unnecessary repetition of words or ideas in writing.
Concise Language
Using fewer words to convey meaning clearly.
Nonrestrictive Clauses
Extra information included in writing, which must be set off by commas.
