Distance
The total length of the path traveled by an object.
Displacement
The change in position of an object; a vector quantity.
Reference Point
A point used for comparison when determining the position or motion of an object.
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes with time; can include changes in speed or direction.
Net Force
The sum of all forces acting on an object.
Newton's Second Law
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass: F = ma.
Friction
A force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are in contact.
Newton's Third Law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Gravitational Force
The force of attraction between all objects in the universe with mass.
Free Fall
The motion of an object when the only force acting on it is gravity.
Air Resistance
The force exerted by air on a moving object; it opposes the motion of the object.
