Mental Health
Involves a patient/resident’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
Risk Factors
Factors that may contribute to mental health problems, including genetics, life experiences, chemical imbalances, and social isolation.
Warning Signs
Indicators that a patient/resident may be experiencing mental health issues, such as changes in eating or sleeping habits, social withdrawal, or feelings of hopelessness.
Anxiety
A vague, uneasy feeling in response to stress that may become a disorder when it is excessive.
Stressor
An event or factor that causes stress, influencing the level of anxiety experienced by an individual.
Panic Disorder
A condition characterized by sudden, intense feelings of fear or dread called panic attacks.
Phobia
An intense fear of an object or situation that poses little or no actual danger.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
A mental health disorder involving recurrent, unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors that the individual feels compelled to perform.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
A mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, leading to symptoms like flashbacks and severe anxiety.
Schizophrenia
A severe, chronic brain disorder characterized by psychosis, delusions, and hallucinations.
Mood Disorders
Mental health disorders that affect a person's emotional state, including depression and bipolar disorder.
Bipolar Disorder
A mood disorder marked by extreme mood swings, from manic highs to depressive lows.
Substance Use Disorder
A condition where the individual overuses or is dependent on drugs or alcohol, impacting mental and physical health.
Eating Disorders
Mental health conditions characterized by extreme eating behaviors, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
Suicide Contagion
The phenomenon where exposure to suicide can lead to additional suicides among those in close proximity to the victim.
