What are some initial considerations involved in the helping process?
Physical conditions - adequate ventilation, comfy, temperature, space, sound/video, culturally sensitive decor, toys for children and multiple ways to exit. (Supportive, comfy, private).
interaction type - purpose, setting, client characteristics, number of participants.
Phases of Helping Process
The three main phases: Phase I - exploration, engagement, assessment; Phase II - implementation and goal attainment; Phase III - termination.
Phase 1: exploration and engagement
Exploration - active listening, asking questions, gathering information about the client and their situation.
Engagement - establish rapport and enhancing motivation.
Phase 1: assessment
Formulating multidimensional assessment of the problem, identifying systems, and identifying relevant resources.
Phase 1: planning
Mutually negotiating goals and formulating a plan/course of action.

Implementation and goal attainment

Active Listening
A social work skill involving fully concentrating, understanding, responding, and remembering what the client says.
Engagement
The process of establishing rapport and enhancing motivation between the social worker and the client.
Implementation
The phase where the mutually agreed plan of action is executed to address client concerns.
Assessment
The process of formulating a multidimensional assessment of the client's problems and identifying relevant resources.
Goal Attainment
Tracking and monitoring progress to ensure that the set goals are being achieved in the helping process.
Termination
The final phase of the helping process where the social worker assesses the achievement of client goals and strategies for maintaining change.
