They became independent from the OE, and Austrian-Hungary began to annex land there, making the Balkans wanting independence

They also want the Balkans so they promote Pan-Slavism (the independence of the Balkan people) so that they can secretly take it for themselves

Competition over land led to rivalries, and it provided raw materials for weapon/arms factories, can also gain colonies that allow them to recruit soldiers
