• Nystatin (oral thrush - rinse and swish it 2 mins then swallow it; comes in oral, cream, or liquid)
• Clotrimazole (good cream for vaginal yeast infections - treatment of candidiasis found in warm moist areas or mucous membranes like skin folds)
• Miconazole (skin yeast infection under skin folds - apply coating of cream/powder there; vaginal)

Topical Steroids
• Hydrocortisone (lower potency - safer OTC for itchy rash)
• Triamcinolone (prescription - more potent for more severe reactions like poison ivy or chemicals; good for eczema and mild psoriasis - don’t use on face)
Topical Antiacne Meds
benzoyl peroxide (has drying effect; might see skin peeling, warmthness, redness)
isotretinoin (for pt that have severe cystic acne; inhibits sebaceous glands; softens skin; highly teratogenic (use 2 forms of BC); monitor for depression and suicidal ideation)
tretinioin (might see redness, peeling, mild s/s; helps the turnover of cells)
vitamin A acid: retinoic acid

assess: do not apply antiinfective drugs until culture and sensitivity test are completed
age considerations: systemic absorption is higher in very young and very old pts because their skin may be more permeable
