Cited if a dentist prescribes outside dental formulary
NHS Dental Prescriptions are restricted to the Dental Practitioner’s Formulary, therefore if a dentist prescribes outside of the formulary, the NHS won’t reimburse the cost.
However on a private prescription, a dentist can legally prescribe any licensed medicine
Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber vs Independent Nurse Prescriber
Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribers can only prescribe from Schedule 13, which is in the Nurse’s Formulary
This applies both privately and through the NHS
Independent Nurse Prescribers are NOT restricted to the Nurse Formulary
They can prescribe anything both Privately and on NHS prescriptions
If there is a prescription from an Independent Nurse Prescriber, then the Nurse Formulary does not need to be checked.
