what do you do at a stop sign?

complete stop; let right-of-way or pedestrians go; go when safe; come to stop before white line, if no white line=stop before crosswalk OR before intersection OR use sign as mark.

Yield sign looks like...

red and white upside down triangle, red letters "YIELD"

The Yield sign means:

slow; prepare to stop; watch cyclists, pedestrians, right-of-way vehicles.

If you are on the side with the solid line, you cannot pass other vehicles or go across the line except to make a left turn into a driveway. If you are on the side with the broken line, you can pass if it is safe to and you will not interfere with traffic.

You can not pass or change lanes. You can not go across the lines except to turn left to enter or leave the highway

One solid line

You can pass other vehicles or change lanes, but you can only do so when obstructions in the road or traffic conditions make it necessary.

Right of way rules

* Vehicle already in intersection has right of way over vehicle preparing to enter

*Vehicle going straight has right of way over a vehicle turning left

*Emergency vehicles (that are sounding a siren or flashing lights) have the right of way over any other vehicle. You must pull over when safe to do so

*Pedestrians in crosswalks and intersections have the right of way

*Vehicles about to enter or cross a road from a driveway or private road must yield to all traffic on main road

*Yield right of way to funeral processions

*Yield right of way to blind persons with dogs

Emergency vehicles

Pull to the right side and stop

- Do not stop in intersection

- Do not drive or stop in a way that interferes with vehicles

- Stay at least 500 ft behind vehicle

Blue, Green and Amber Lights

slow, check traffic, keep wheels straight until actual turn

right turns

get as close to the right curb or edge of the road, avoid swinging wide, into right lane

left turn from two-way road into two-way road

Approach the turn with your left wheels as close as possible to the center line. Try to use the left side of the intersection to help make sure that you do not interfere with traffic headed toward you that wants to turn left. Keep to the right of the center line of the road you enter, but as close as possible to the center line. Be alert for traffic heading toward you from the left and from the lane you are about to go across.

Left turn from one-way road into two-way road

Approach the turn in the left lane or from the left side of a single lane. As you go across the intersection, enter the two-way road to the right of its center line, but as close as possible to the center line. Be alert for traffic that approaches from the road to the left

Left Turn from One-Way Road to One-Way Road

Approach with your car in the traffic lane nearest the left curb. Turn without swinging wide and bring your car into the extreme left traffic lane onto the road you are entering. You may make the turn against a red light.

left turn from two-way road into one-way road

approach from right half of road-way closest to the center, before center of intersection, into left lane

Left turn from two-way road into four-lane highway

Approach the turn from the right half of the roadway closest to the center. Enter the left lane, to the right of the center line. When traffic permits, you can move out of the left lane.

u-turns

not on highway unless absolutely necessary, only from left part of lane to the centerline, never from right lane unless signs say otherwise, not on top of hill, curve, or blindspots, NOT in business districts, school zone

3 point turn

signal with right turn signal, pull over to right, stop, signal left, turn left to face left edge, turn wheel as right as possible, look behind as you back up, turn wheel all the way to left, pull forward

In front of a driveway, Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, Within 30 feet of a traffic light, STOP sign or YIELD sign, Within 20 feet of a fire station driveway, or within 75 feet on the opposite side of the road, Along a curb that has been cut, lowered or made for access to the sidewalk, You can not park your vehicle within 50 feet of a railroad crossing.
