Pectoralis Major
L: Clavicular head: medial half of clavicle → Lateral lip of bicipital groove
Sternocostal head: Sternum, upper costal cartilage of rib 1-6 → Lateral lip of bicipital groove
F: Adducts, medially rotates humerus. Flexes humerus (Clavicular), Extends humerus (Sternocostal)
Pectoralis Minor
L: Anterior surface of sternal ends of ribs 3-5 → Coracoidal process
F: Assists scapular protraction, downward rotation and stabilization. Rib elevation.
Trapezius
L: Upper: Nuchal line, Ext.Occ. protuberance → lateral third of clavicle
F: Elevates scapula, upwardly rotates scapula, bilaterally extends neck
Middle: Spinous process of C7-T4 → Scapula spine and Acromion
F: Adduct scapula
Lower: Spinous process of T4-T12 → Medial part of scapula spine
F: Depress scapula, upward rotation assistance
Rhomboid Major
L: Spinous process T2-5 → Medial border of scapula
F: scapular; retraction, elevation, downward rotation, and stabilization.
Rhomboid Minor
L: Spinous process C7-T1 → Medial border of scapular above spine
F: scapular; retraction, elevation, downward rotation, and stabilization.
Latissimus Dorsi
L: Spinous process T6/7-L5, Iliac crest, Thoracolumbar fascia, inferior angle of scapula → Floor of bicipital groove
F: Humerus; adduction, extension and internal rotation
Erector spinae group (Spinalis)
Broad locational group knowledge expected*
-Spinalis Cervicis muscle
-Spinalis Thoracis muscle
Most medial to spine
L: Spinous process of lower vertebrae T11-L2 → Spinous process of upper vertebrae
F: extension and lateral flexion of vertebral column (Mainly thoracic and cervical region)
I I I(spine)I I I
Erector spinae group (Longissimus)
Broad locational group knowledge expected*
-Longissimus Capitis muscle
-Longissimus Cervicis muscle
-Longissimus Thoracis muscle
intermediate and largest to spine of erector spinae group
L: Common tendon from iliac crest, sacrum and lumbar vertebrae → Transverse process of thoracic and cervical vertebrae, mastoid process (L. capitis)
F: Extension and lateral flexion of vertebral column and head
I I I (spine) I I I
Erector spinae group (Illiocostalis)
Broad locational group knowledge expected*
-Iliocostalis Cervicis muscle
-Iliocostalis Thoracis muscle
-Iliocostalis Lumborum muscle
Most lateral to spine of erector spinae group
L: Iliac crest, sacrum → Ribs and transverse process of cervical vertebrae
F: Spine; extension, flexion and posture maintenance
I I I (spine) I I I
Transversospinalis (Multifidus)
Broad locational group knowledge expected*
Deep, Focusing on lower back
Spans Sacrum → cervical spine
F: Spinal stability, spinal; extension, contralateral rotation and lateral flexion
Transversospinalis (Semispinalis)
capatis focus*
L: T6-7 transverse process → Between superior and inferior nuchal lines of occipital bone
F: Head and spine extension, stability and contralateral rotation of vertebral column
