Ganglia
Small masses of nervous tissue containing primarily cell bodies, located outside of the brain and spinal cord.
Neuroglia
Supporting cells in the nervous system that provide structure and support to neurons.
Oligodendrocytes
Neuroglial cells that form the myelin sheath in the Central Nervous System (CNS).
Microglia
Type of neuroglial cell similar to phagocytes; responsible for cleaning up debris in the nervous system.
Astrocytes
Neuroglial cells that support neurons and make up the blood-brain barrier.
Ependymal Cells
Cells found in the choroid plexus that line the ventricles of the brain and produce cerebrospinal fluid.
Schwann's cells
Neuroglial cells that form the myelin sheath in the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS).
Satellite cells
Support cells in the PNS that maintain the environment around neurons.
Leakage Channels
Non-gated channels that are always open in most cells.
Membrane permeability
Refers to the ability of the cell membrane to allow ions like K+ to pass through, often higher for potassium ions.
