passion oratorio
a narrative dramatic work that tells the story of Christ’s passion through 1 of the 4 Gospels, includes narrative (secco recitative & turba chorus), communal response (4-part chorales), and personal response (accompanied recitative and aria)
Lutheran church cantata
a multi-movement work consisting of recitatives and arias that set contemporary religious poetry, usually framed by choral movements that set Bible verses or chorale texts.
Chorale prelude
short setting for organ of a chorale melody, used as an introduction for congregational singing or as an interlude in a Lutheran church service

chorale setting in the style of a 16th century motet

Neurmeister, 1704. Italian influence, added operatic drama, multiple movements, combined biblical texts with new poetry, set text to previous Lutheran cantata melodies
