What is a polygon?
A closed plane figure formed by 3 or more sides that are line segments, where segments only intersect at endpoints and no adjacent sides are collinear.
How are polygons named?
Using letters of consecutive vertices (e.g., polygon ABCDE).
What are examples of regular polygons?
Equilateral triangle, square, regular pentagon, regular hexagon.
Describe regular polygons.
Polygons with equal angles and equal sides.
Describe irregular polygons.
Polygons can have angles equal but sides not equal, sides equal but angles not equal, or neither sides nor angles equal.
What is the sum of interior angles of a triangle?
180°
What is the sum of interior angles of a quadrilateral?
360°
What is the sum of interior angles of a pentagon?
540°
What is the sum of interior angles of a hexagon?
720°
What is the sum of interior angles of an octagon?
1080°
What is the formula to find the sum of the interior angles of a polygon?
sum = (n - 2) * 180°, where n is the number of sides in the polygon.
How to find each interior angle of a regular polygon?
(n-2)x180° / n , where n is the number of sides.
What is the sum of exterior angles of any polygon?
360°
How to calculate the exterior angle of a regular n-sided polygon?
360° / n
Equation relating interior and exterior angles
Interior angle + corresponding exterior angle = 180°.
Names of Polygons based on Sides
