Internal energy
The energy stored in the movement of particles; also known as thermal energy or heat energy.
Joules
The unit of measurement for energy.
Temperature
A measure of how hot or cold an object is, typically measured in degrees Celsius (°C).
Factors affecting internal energy
Internal energy depends on temperature, the material from which it is made, and its mass.
Energy flow
Energy flows from a hotter object to a cooler object until they reach the same temperature.
Evaporation
The process of turning liquid into vapor, which is also a way of transferring energy.
Boiling point
The temperature at which a liquid evaporates fastest, which is 100°C for water.
Sweat evaporation
The process of sweat turning from liquid to gas, cooling the skin and underlying tissues.
