Odd or eccentric behavior
Paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal
Dramatic, emotional, or erratic behavior
Antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic
Anxious or fearful behavior
Avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive
Paranoid personality disorder
Deep distrust and suspicion of others and belief that others intend to harm the person.
Schizoid personality disorder
Persistent avoidance of social relationships and limited emotional expression; genuinely prefer to be alone.
Schizotypal personality disorder
Interpersonal problems, discomfort in close relationships; odd ways of thinking and perceiving; behavioral eccentricities.
Antisocial personality disorder
sometimes described as “psychopaths” or “sociopaths,” these individuals persistently disregard and violate others’ rights.
Likely to lie repeatedly, be reckless, and act impulsively. Little regard for other individuals, and can be cruel, sadistic, aggressive, and violent
Borderline personality disorder
Great instability, including major shifts in mood, unstable self-image, and impulsivity with unstable interpersonal relationships; troubled by feelings of emptiness. They are prone to bouts of anger, which can result in physical aggression and violence. Impulsive anger inward and may harm themselves. Seem troubled by deep feelings of emptiness.
Histrionic personality disorder
Extremely emotional and continually seek to be the center of attention; vain, self-centered, and demanding.
Narcissistic personality disorder
Grandiose, need much admiration, and feel no empathy with others; exaggerate achievements, often appear arrogant.
Avoidant personality disorder
Uncomfortable and inhibited in social situations, overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy, and extremely sensitive to negative evaluation. Usually few close friends.
Dependent personality disorder
Excessive need to be taken care of, clinging and obedient, fearing separation from loved ones; difficulty with separation.
Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder
Preoccupied with order, perfection, and control that they lose all flexibility, openness, and efficiency; rigid and stubborn.
