Quality Assurance (QA)
A systematic process to ensure that imaging equipment meets specified standards and performs reliably to avoid risks to patients and staff.
Cross Sectional Imaging
Imaging techniques such as Ultrasound, CT, and MRI that produce images in cross sections or slices of the body.
Radiation Dosimetry
The measurement and assessment of the radiation dose received by patients during medical imaging procedures.
Ultrasound QA Guidelines
Protocols established for the regular quality assurance testing of ultrasound scanners, including guidelines published by BMUS.
Image Dropout
The phenomenon where a well-defined vertical line or area of no information appears in an ultrasound image due to detector failure.
Acoustic Array
An arrangement of transducer elements in an ultrasound probe that generates and receives sound waves; sensitive to damage.
Level A Tests (CT)
Frequent, quick pass/fail quality assurance tests that typically do not require sophisticated equipment.
Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)
A measure indicating the quality of an MRI image, reflecting the level of desired signal compared to background noise.
Uniformity in MRI Imaging
The capability of an MRI system to produce a consistent signal response over the entire image volume.
Linearity and Distortion in Imaging
Measures of the accuracy and precision of distances within an imaging system, essential for treatment planning.
