Time Signature

are numbers written at the beginning of the staff; it’s used to show how beats are grouped into metrical patterns

upper number

tells the number of beats in a measure

bottom number

tells what kind of note receives one beat

Broken measure/incomplete measure

the relationship between the first measure to the last measure

Compound Time Signature

the upper number is evenly divisible by 3
