protects the pubic bone during sex

sensitive to touch, temp, pain, and pressure, and secretes lubricants to protect the internal structures of the vulva
labia minora (external)
erectile tissue that contains sebaceous glands that produces lubricant protecting the vulvar skin, becomes swollen during sexual arousal to protect the opening of the vagina (introitus)
clitoris (external)
erectile organ which becomes distended during sexual stimulation then through the PNS relaxes and increases blood flow which tightens the opening of the vagina (introitus) around the penis
perineum (external)
muscular area that stretches to accommodate the birth of the baby, can have lacerations after birth (jagged wound tears)
prominent spine
makes descent of the baby more difficult and can cause more back pain to mom
ovaries (internal)
contains ovum (egg cell produced by the ovaries during the MENSTRUAL CYCLE)
fallopian tubes (internal)
allows sperm to travel directly to the ovum where fertilization will occur and eventually implantation which will begin pregnancy
cervix (internal)
responsible for mucous production which assists sperm travel to ovum
endometrium
innermost layer of the uterus

middle layer but makes up most of the uterus

outer serosal layer and protects the body of the uterus
